Public Git Commits

Git is a version control system that keeps track of computer source code with speed and efficiency in a distributed way. Version control is a technique that helps maintain a record of all changes throughout the development process.

Git commits are snapshots of code changes in such a version control system at a particular point in time. Each commit captures signed modifications made by its developer.

The creative process was treated as a series of iterative steps that rely on public git commits. The awalkaday commits were produced openly, hooked up to cryptographic signatures, and organized in a linear sequence within a lightweight file.

By improving upon the way that creators of works of art used to refine their artist's proofs, the awalkaday project evolved incrementally, leaving behind a rich historical trail of its development intact and public. It was not far from being seen as a novel concept that mimics what is defined as evolution in the science of evolutionary biology.
